Captain's Mistress is a timeless strategy game where two players battle to connect four of their pieces before their opponent. Every move shapes the board as pieces stack from the bottom up, creating new opportunities to attack, defend, and outsmart your rival. Simple to learn but packed with strategy, every match is a race to spot the winning move first.
Players take turns dropping colored pieces into one of the board's columns. Each piece falls to the lowest available space, making every placement permanent and adding to the growing puzzle.
Your goal is to connect four of your own pieces in a continuous line—horizontally, vertically, or diagonally—before your opponent does. At the same time, you'll need to block your opponent's threats while setting up your own winning combinations.
The first player to connect four pieces wins the game. If the board fills completely without either player connecting four, the game ends in a draw.
Objective
Be the first player to connect four of your pieces in a straight line.
Setup
- Two players each choose a color.
- Begin with an empty vertical game board.
- Randomly determine the first player.
Taking a Turn
- Choose any non-full column.
- Drop one of your pieces into the selected column.
- The piece falls to the lowest available space.
- Play passes to your opponent.
Winning the Game
You win immediately if you connect four of your pieces in a row:
- Horizontally
- Vertically
- Diagonally
Draw
If every space on the board is filled and neither player has connected four pieces, the game ends in a draw.
Strategy Tips
- Control the center columns whenever possible.
- Watch for multiple winning threats on future turns.
- Block your opponent before they complete four in a row.
- Plan several moves ahead, since pieces cannot be moved once dropped.
